Symptoms

  • Microsoft Edge / Internet Explorer report the signature is corrupt or invalid.
  • SmartScreen blocks running the installation saying the publisher is unknown.

Cause

Microsoft has deprecated SHA-1 signatures as of January 12, 2016.  Since these installations are signed with SHA-1 it no longer considers the signatures valid.  For more information see:

Microsoft Security Advisory 3123479

Solution

First, you can verify the installation file isn't corrupted and is genuine by selecting it, clicking on Properties, and then the Digital Signatures tab.  If it shows our signature (using our original company name, eSymmetrix Inc.) then the file is fine for you to install.

We will be issuing new installations going forward that are signed with SHA-256 to avoid this problem.
